Professional women today are taking on more responsibilities than ever before. They are business owners, presidents of corporations, attorneys, executives, doctors, and the list goes on. They are also wives and mothers, and are very involved in the running of their homes, their children’s activities, and the community at large. With all of these responsibilities, it is necessary for women to find time for themselves, and be the best they can be.

Finding ways to destress is extremely important. Here are 10 forms of stress relief that might help calm the mind and soothe the soul. Choose what is best for you.

  1. Journaling – Writing in a journal has become a favorite de-stressor for many. Finding a notebook with a cute cover, a powerful statement, or just a special color, and some special pens will get you started. Find time to sit down, and write your thoughts of the day, and clear your mind.
  2. Meditation – For many, meditation is truly mind clearing. What is meditation? It is actually taking time to look within. Find a quiet spot to sit, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and allow your mind to clear completely. While many think meditation is about not thinking, it is actually the opposite, meditation is about listening to your mind, allowing thoughts to come and taking the time to reflect on what is being said.
  3. Take a Bubble Bath – taking a bath in general is soothing and relaxing, but adding the benefits of bubbles, or soothing oils to your bath, can be even more so. Add your favorite scent, essential oil, bath salts, take a glass of wine, and relax.
  4. Breathe – If you are extremely stressed, and don’t have much time to take, stop for a few minutes and take 10 deep breaths. Deep breathing is soothing and relaxing, thus allowing your body to destress and calm down.
  5. Coloring – this throwback to our childhood is actually an excellent form of destressing. When you color, you focus on your internal self, and can eliminate the outside factors. By finding adult coloring books, especially those with mandalas, coloring takes on a meditative form, thus allowing you to feel more relaxed and soothed.
  6. Take a Walk – Take time away from your activities, get back to nature and take a walk. Communing with nature, even if it just a walk around the block, will work to clear your head, and calm your body and mind.
  7. Engage in your interests – what activities do you enjoy doing? Do you have a hobby that you enjoy doing? If so, do it! Engaging in a hobby or activity you enjoy participating in, and you will be surprised how much less stress you will feel!
  8. Unplug from Social Media – most of us today are completely plugged into social media, and the instant gratification that comes from today’s technological world. Taking time to unplug from social media for an evening, day, weekend, or longer can go a long way to destress.
  9. Time with Friends – Do you have special friends you haven’t seen in a while, or have been too busy to enjoy time together? Spending time with friends allows you to eliminate the stress of the every day, and become more connected with them and you.
  10. Learn a New Skill – Is there something you have been wanting to learn either for yourself or your career? Taking the time to learn a new skill, tool or hobby can make you feel better about yourself, and you can add it to your credentials.
